Woolen clothes: Here's how to properly care for them
Woolen garments should always be treated the same way, regardless of the type of wool they are made from. Here are five key points that apply to all types of wool:
* Wash wool by hand in cool water or on the special program in the washing machine, treat the fabric with care
* Use the right amount of delicate detergent TIERRA VERDE ECO washing gel for wool
* Rinse your wool in cool water
* Spread on a towel to dry
* Do not hang woolen clothes
How often should we wash wool?
* Washing your clothes wears them out, so you shouldn't wash them too often. Wool sweaters can be worn up to five times between washes.
Wool has the property of self-cleaning, so airing it out after wearing will keep it fresh. Remember to avoid direct sunlight and not hang it up for too long: woolen clothes, even when dry, stretch and lose their shape when hung up.
Washing wool by hand
* Wool is adversely affected by mechanical movement. Therefore, we recommend that you wash your woolen clothes by hand. Always read the manufacturer's instructions before washing.
* Wash your clothes carefully in lukewarm water, 30°- 40°C. First, pour the right amount of delicate detergent TIERRA VERDE ECO washing gel for wool and then add the clothes.
*Treat clothes gently by agitating and gently rotating. Do not squeeze, twist or rub.
* Rinse twice in lukewarm water, 30°-40°C. Never use cold water for rinsing. Alternating between hot and cold water increases the risk of pilling and shrinkage.
* If you have sensitive skin or allergies, you can use our TIERRA VERDE EKO rinse aid in the first rinse. This eliminates detergent residues, dirt and limescale deposits and softens them. Use the right amount of detergent. Too much detergent will make rinsing difficult; too little will worsen the washing result.
"The more careful you are, the longer you can enjoy your knitwear—it will get better over time."
Machine wash wool
* When it comes to wool fabrics, a washing machine should be considered the second best alternative to hand washing. Of course, a machine saves time and effort. Just make sure it has the right program (hand wash, wool).
* Use a mesh laundry bag; it reduces the risk of matting.
* Set the appropriate program (hand wash, wool) and use the correct amount of delicate detergent TIERRA VERDE ECO laundry gel for wool .
* Never spin woolen clothes. If you are unsure about your machine, test it first with a woolen garment that is not as important to you.
Drying wool
* Never rub dry wool.
* Carefully squeeze most of the water out of the rinsed garment. Be careful not to wring it out.
* Lay the garment horizontally on a towel, place the sleeves to the side, then adjust the front and back so that the garment regains its original shape and size.
* Roll the towel from top to bottom, not side to side. Although it may be tempting to wring the towel, don't! Let the dry towel do the work and absorb the remaining water.
* Finally, when the garment is almost dry, unfold it and place it on a new dry towel. Straighten the garment again and let it dry completely.
Ironing wool
* We do not recommend ironing wool. The wrinkles disappear on their own when the garment is worn.
* Stubborn creases can be removed with steam. Hang the garment in your bathroom and turn on the hot water; the steam will get rid of the creases.
* If you need to iron, be sure to use the correct setting. Iron your garment by lightly pressing the metal part on the back of the garment. Do not move the iron back and forth.
* Place a piece of cotton cloth between the iron and the wool to prevent shiny spots.
Stains on wool
* Wool absorbs liquids slowly; in any case, try to remove stains as quickly as possible.
* Wash the garment as soon as possible if the stain cannot be completely wiped away.
* Use our ECO stain remover soap . It is designed for delicate fabrics and is good for removing stains from wool. Do not use conventional stain removers as they will ruin your wool fabrics.
Wool storage
* Don't hang your woolen clothes on clothes hangers — this applies to both wet and dry clothes. They will stretch and lose their shape.
Do not leave wool fabrics in direct sunlight, as direct sunlight can cause colors to fade.
* Store your wool clothes in a drawer or wardrobe. You can fold them like you would other clothes.
* If you are concerned about carpet moths, we recommend treating your storage space with natural repellents such as lavender oil, patchouli oil, and cedarwood.
* Do not store your wool clothes in tightly sealed plastic containers. Any residual moisture can ruin the wool. Use natural pest control agents. They work well, have a pleasant scent, and are neither toxic nor carcinogenic.
