What is this, how does it work?
Our loofah cleansing sponges are made from the fruit of the Lufa cylindrica plant, also known as the sponge gourd or Egyptian cucumber. It is said that even the Egyptian queen Cleopatra herself knew that in addition to being suitable for making a delicious salad, the loofah could be used to make wonderful cosmetic utensils.
The ripe fruit of the loofah resembles a cucumber. To process it, it is peeled and soaked in water until the seeds and soft flesh are removed. The tough fibers remain. Once dried and cleaned, they become natural sponges, scrubbers, and other useful tools.
Although dry loofah is hard and rough, it softens and quickly increases its volume after soaking. Thanks to this specific property, loofah is an ideal material even for gentle facial care. Loofah is a great helper for removing dead skin cells, promoting blood circulation and rejuvenating the skin. A perfect alternative to plastic sponges and washcloths.

Why is the Egyptian loofah so special?
Egyptian loofah has thick, flexible, soft and spongy fibers, making it the perfect choice for skin and facial care (massages, peeling or use in the sauna). Although cheaper loofahs from Asia are often sold, their fibers are less stiff and water-resistant, and Asian loofahs are usually not as pleasant to the touch as Egyptian loofahs.
